Will our group / setting need to do a risk assessment?
Yes. Screen Actions and the Princess Pavilion cannot take ANY responsibility for your attending group. There is an EXAMPLE risk assessment on this website to help get you started but you must carry out your OWN paperwork as you would for any other educational trip.
Should I bring my school / youth setting on both days of the festival?
Screen Actions recommends attending one day at the festival. Please refer to the timetable for information about each day and the differences between the two.
How many people can I bring from my school / youth setting?
You can bring a maximum of 30 people from your school / youth setting. This total must include adult staff to cover your supervision needs. You will need to book tickets for all places, but Screen Actions requires only the names and contact details of the adult staff responsible for your group.
How do the workshops work?
The majority of our workshops are drop-in workshops that will be situated in the café/ bar area at the Pavilion. Your young people can just drop in and out of these as they please. Workshops that require young people to sign up as described on this website’s booking form and in the timetable can accept no more than 2 young people from any one group. This is because of the extremely limited places available over all.
Say my 2 young people have signed up for an all day workshop, do they still need Screen Actions tickets?
Yes, book workshop places as you book your entire group’s tickets to come along to the festival.
Is Screen Actions a safe environment?
The organisers at Screen Actions take safety at the festival very seriously. We have done everything in our power to ensure that the environment is as safe as possible. Every workshop practitioner and Screen Actions adult staff member has an enhanced disclosure CRB police check and the festival is not open to the public.
Will we need money?
Entry to Screen Actions is free as long as you have booked places. You and your young people may need to bring a little money for refreshment purposes.
Are there refreshments available?
Yes, the Pavilion café / bar will be open. Cash only. No debit/credit card facilities exist at the venue. The organisers of Screen Actions have requested that healthy, substantial snacks and drinks be put on sale over the festival period, however it might be far more sensible to bring packed lunches, especially in the instance of specific dietary requirements within your group.
Is there any ‘down time’?
Yes, adhering to last year’s suggestions we have built a lunch hour into this year’s festival, so that people can get a break, eat lunch, network etc. Please note: all workshop leaders will also be on a break.

Will we need coats?
The Princess Pavilion, although perfectly formed, is small especially with a lot of us in it. There is a huge outside grassy space with seating in the centre of the venue, so if you think your young people might like to take advantage of being out there at some point during the day, then yes, coats are probably advisable.
What happens if I’m bringing young people that must not be filmed or photographed?
In this instance, Screen Actions asks that you make contact with the Front of House Manager Ben Read through a Screen Actions staff young person at the front info desk. They can then make sure all documentary coverage of the festival deliberately avoids the young people you identify (without alienating them of course.) It would also be very helpful for the festival if these individuals also be aware that they must not be filmed or photographed as there will be a lot of separate film / photograph activity going on during workshops and screenings.
What responsibility does Screen Actions take for the young people attending?
Aside from designing the festival to be as safe and rewarding as possible, Screen Actions takes absolutely NO RESPONSIBILITY for supervising the young people you bring or ensuring that they stay within the venue.
Are the film screenings suitable for all ages?
All films submitted to this year’s Screen Actions festival have been carefully programmed by a young person’s group. The majority of all these films are suitable for open viewing, however there are a handful that younger children may want adult accompaniment for and might be considered a PG rating.
When is my / our film on?
If you have submitted a film to this year’s Screen Actions festival the festival office should have contacted you via e.mail to let you know when your film will be shown. If you have any further queries, please ask for help at the info desk on your arrival at the Princess Pavilion.
What’s this Screen Actions party all about? Can anyone come?
This year’s Screen Actions has been meticulously organised by eight groups of young people from across Cornwall. To celebrate their huge amount of hard work in the run up to the festival, they have fund raised for, and organised a party on the Thursday evening just for them. So unfortunately, no, not anyone can come… only those on the Screen Action organising groups are invited to the party. But we’re almost definite you will have had a pretty good time by then anyway.
Can we request copies of the work produced by our young people at Screen Actions?
Screen Actions have thought long and hard about tackling this issue and have made a decision to encourage everyone participating in workshops to ‘enjoy the moment’ of said workshops and / or record their own souvenir footage / photographs of the activity. Due to the sheer volume of young people that attend and participate in Screen Actions copies of work WILL NOT be distributed after the event. Please do not ask the workshop leaders to make exceptions as Screen Actions not only pays them a one-off fee, but operates a fair for all policy.
Do we / our young people have to stay sat in a screening?
We at Screen Actions encourage our audiences to remain seated during a screening so as not to disturb others. We have deliberately programmed the screenings to never be much over an hour and to be interesting and diverse enough to keep you comfy in your viewing.. unless of course you’re bursting for a wee in which case you’re excused to leave!
What happens if some of my group get lost?
BEFORE YOU ENTER THE VENUE ensure you agree with your whole group to congregate at the info desk if any of you become separated. The desk can be found easily at the front and only entrance to Screen Actions. Please note: the Princess Pavilion is not big!
Is there any transport laid on?
Screen Actions is run on an incredibly tight budget, and for this reason the money we do raise gets channelled into making the festival the hands-on, valuable film experience that it is. Screen Actions does not provide transport of any kind.
Who is in charge?
In the event of needing to speak to someone who knows Screen Actions inside out on the day, please ask at the info desk to be introduced to The Directors (young people) Tom Marshall and Jamie Bee or Project Manager Hana Backland (adult staff member.)
